"Society is the first link in the chain, when I buy a bottle of water I buy the content and the container and when the bottle no longer has value for me what I have to do is channel it properly”. -
Jaime Torres Fidalgo, communication director of ECOCE.
What 2 decades ago was seen as a future problem with the various types of packaging materials is now a reality that we can feel with the waste that can affect our environments, from the seas to the streets of the cities You can perceive the presence of plastics, just to mention some of these materials, and that this business group had the impulse to recover to make this association one of the most successful PET recycling schemes.
"Twenty years ago, when ECOCEm was created, 8% of PET containers were recovered for recycling, which is equivalent to 8,000 tons. Today the recovery percentage is 59%, that is, out of every 10 containers launched on the market six recover, this places us as leaders in the entire American continent above Brazil, the United States and Canada in PET recovery and at the same level as the European Union, there are countries that are even higher, such as China or Germany, but we are leaders in Latin America in recycling packaging and plastics in general," Jaime Torres Fidalgo, ECOCE's communication director, said in an interview for El Economista.
